Why Grow Catnip Seeds?

Posted on August 28, 2021

Learning about growing herbs from seed is simple and inexpensive. An ounce of catnip seeds has about 3,200 seeds. Most catnip seeds available today are viable for up to 5 years. Catnip seedlings are easy to grow and very easy to germinate.

Before planting, if the seedlings need weeding, they can be weeded out before planting. When planting, keep in mind the type of garden you want to create. Planting herbs from catnip seeds indoors can be difficult to do. Outdoor gardens tend to be more successful for growing catnip. If you are interested in growing it outdoors, plan your garden for the kind of climatic conditions it will usually have.

Before sowing, moisten the soil. Place seedlings into the sowing area about one inch deep. Plant them in loosely packed soil so weeds don’t end up pulling the roots down. Catnip sown in early spring should be ready to sprout by late spring.

The first watering will depend on the weight of the plant. Water when necessary but avoid getting the watering wet. Gently water the chirping herbs with a garden hose. Maintain an even light moisture content so the plant will remain healthy. Prune dead leaves and twigs to promote a more natural look to the garden.

Caring for young plants is easy when you add a little care while they’re growing. Feed them as needed but keep in mind that seeds have to be divided daily or the quality of the plant will be diminished. Mulch the chives frequently during hot summer months to prevent drying out the soil underneath the seeds. Remember to fertilize new plants once each month during the growing season.

Full Sun – These growing herbs thrive in full sun, but they can tolerate partial shade. Shoots and leaves can survive on annuals only but do not grow plants from seeds. Some varieties like the Bluebell or Holly prefer full sun but others prefer partial shade or desert. It’s important to give annuals generous amounts of water to keep them healthy. You can also relocate flowering plants to shaded areas during the winter.

Partial Shade – These plants prefer a dry and shady spot to grow. You can move pots from one spot to another to provide them with moisture. Be careful when planting them in water-filled soil. If the soil dries out too much they may die.

Perennial – It’s best to plant perennials because they grow quickly and you can move them to areas with more sun or shade if needed. There are several types of bushes to choose from. Get rid of tall-growing shrubs and add more growing herbs to your garden. Some prefer a bushier plant such as the likes of cleavers or hollyhocks. Get enough sunshine and water to help these growing bushes grow into beautiful blooms.

Planting Seeds – You can start planting seeds the very next spring after the first frost in the southern states. Just remember to not plant all at once. Try a small area of two to four plants to get enough seeds to cover a large area.

Herbs – It’s easy to get these wonderful herbs to grow in your garden. Plant mint and basil and use them for cooking. You can also plant sage and chives to add flavor to your salads. Other herbs that are used as a flavoring for cooking include dill, coriander, sage, and marjoram.

Professional Gardener – These experts can show you how to plant and develop your very own herb garden using the perfect combination of growing catnip seeds and a carefully planned and planted garden. They can also help you choose the best spot for planting. A professional gardener can tell you how many catnip seeds should be planted in each location to make sure that the herbs will grow well together. Some good planting areas are along fences, in raised beds, in containers and other raised areas.

As cats are known to be prey animals, mint is a natural deterrent for them. Mint can be crushed and mixed with honey to create a very tasty tea. This tea can be taken with water and eaten right out of the cup. This is another way of keeping cats away from your garden and your plants!
