Planter Box for Terrace Gardens

Posted on October 8, 2021

If you live in an apartment, say the condominiums that are all over the world, and you do not have your own plot of land to plant your own vegetables or flowers, you should consider getting a planter box for terrace garden. These planter boxes are very useful in apartment gardening since they come in different sizes and shapes. You can get a small one-square-foot planter box, which is very suitable for a small apartment. You can also get bigger ones, ranging up to six-square feet, which are ideal for larger apartment gardens. However, even though these huge boxes are very useful, you still need to take into account a number of factors before planting anything in them.

First of all, you should think about the location of your planter box. If it is placed on the balcony, or the balcony stairs, the soil should be very soft so that the plants can easily grow there. If the soil is hard, the roots may rot because of the hard surface. When choosing the spot for your planter box, it is important that you will also put soil in it so that it can provide the nutrients that your plants need.

Secondly, when using a planter box for terrace garden, make sure that you will place the box on a slope. Although this type of box is more compact, the roots may spread all around, ruining your garden if this happens. To solve this problem, you can use stakes and place them on the lower part of the box. If the terrace is on the first floor, the roots will only grow horizontally. This is because the soil is placed on the bottom and the roots are grown closer to the soil.

Thirdly, you should choose a planter box that can hold a lot of soil. You should avoid placing the box on the ground. The roots will rot faster if they are planted on the ground. The box should be built up with loose soil and the roots can go directly into it.

Fourthly, you should place the box on a sturdy platform. This is important because the root system will spread through the layers of soil. Using gravel can help, but a sturdy concrete or stone planter box is preferred. When you are buying a planter box, check how strong it is. You don’t want your plant roots to get broken if they fall from the box.

Fifthly, you need to prepare the planter box for terrace gardening. Clear away any weeds. Remove all stones and fallen leaves. After cleaning it, apply mulch.

Sixthly, you have to mulch the box. This will keep the soil moist. Mulching also helps retain moisture in the plant’s roots. Finally, after mulching, you can add a layer of soil on the bottom. This layer will allow the roots to absorb moisture from the soil. You can also put a plastic cover over the box during the winter months.

In summary, planter boxes for terrace gardening are important to help your plants grow. However, you should also know how to take care of them. By following these tips, you can also achieve a beautiful garden with your own planter boxes. So what are you waiting for? Buy a planter box now.

These planter boxes are made from different materials. You can choose the one that best suits your needs. Wooden planter boxes are good for those who want to have something that resembles a garden cabin. However, if you want a more modern design, then you can choose other types of planter boxes like the metal ones.

For planning, you should start from the basics. You should determine where you are going to place your planter box. Then, you should find out what kind of plant you are planning to plant in the box. This way, you will know the type of soil that you need to plant your box in. And finally, you should figure out how large of a box you are going to build.

For example, if you are planning to grow small shrubs or herbs in your terrace planter box, you should build a small box that will be about six inches larger than the size of your planter box. On the other hand, if you plan to have flowering plants or trees in your box, you should build a box that is at least twenty-four inches high and thirty-four inches wide. Remember that your terrace will look bigger if you place taller plants or trees on the sides of the box. Furthermore, make sure that your plants will not crowd the space.
