If you wish to rear, fast growing vegetables in pots easily then potatoes would be an ideal choice. They are perfectly fitted for being grown in small pots and whether you love eating fresh baby potatoes dug up from the earth or you enjoy eating them cooked up, you should plant potatoes in your backyard. It is always recommended to go for flexible pots like clay potato sacks or plastic vegetable pots as they permit good drainage. These containers will not let moisture to build up and this helps the roots grow strong and healthy. Growing potatoes in the garden is not a big problem.

Another one of the best vegetables for container gardening in the early spring is lettuce. Lettuce can be easily grown in small pots on the patio or even in the rooftop. As it grows fast you will have no problem supplying yourself with enough vegetables during the peak season. In the early autumn you should consider adding shredded cauliflower and onion to your kitchen. These ingredients are very popular among homemakers in the UK and they are also grown locally.

Tomatoes are another crop that is ideal for container gardening in the early spring. There are two varieties namely the bracket tomatoes and the dwarf tomatoes. You can easily provide tomatoes all over your garden in small trellises if you have enough space. Tomatoes thrive better in sunny regions and you can provide them with adequate sunlight.

Onions are another food that you should provide your vegetable plants with in the months of spring. If you have an abundance of space you can easily grow your own onion crops. One great advantage with regards to container growing is that you can easily change the soil. If you plant onions in a container, you can easily move them to a new area if you need to change the soil or the climate conditions. You should ensure that you have a strong rock bottom in the pot because this will help hold back weeds and keep your plants from being eaten away by pests.

Beets are another crop that is very suitable for container gardens. You can easily grow beets in the late summer and early fall. However, you should ensure that you use a good quality potting soil so that your plants have a good root hold and can survive in the tough gardening soil.

Tomatoes are very popular but if you do not have ample sunlight or if your region does not get enough sunlight, you should consider other options. Many people enjoy eating tomatoes but unless you have a greenhouse you will have to eat tomatoes without the added extras. If you have access to a greenhouse then you should definitely try to grow tomatoes in a pot, especially if you enjoy eating spicy foods.

One important thing to consider before you plant seeds in any container is the type of container you are planting them in. Make sure that you have a pot that has enough room to support the amount of vegetables you plan on planting. Many gardeners prefer to use steel drainage holes so that they can plant their seedlings in water. You should also make sure that you plant your seedlings in a healthy soil so that they can have the best chance of thriving.
