Be Careful to Choose Plants for Your Balcony

Posted on May 15, 2021

When it comes to container gardening, balcony trees are a great idea. They can be the focal point of your garden and give your guests some shade when you’re cooking up a storm. As attractive and interesting as they may sound, balcony trees are not something that you should undertake if you’re a beginner. This article will help you choose a good container for balcony gardening. If you follow these guidelines, you’ll have a successful container garden!

If you have an established tree in your yard, by all means, use it in your container garden. It will bring you many benefits. You can give your plants shade, help control weeds, and make sure that you’re planting them in a location that receives enough sunlight. In addition, your container will also help to define your home’s architecture.

However, if you’re planning to do balcony container gardening, remember that you’re going to need at least two trees in order to maintain a substantial level of shade. You can create a wonderful design by planting two or three balconies that face each other. Your first concern, of course, will be where to put them. Keep in mind that balcony trees are generally quite tall, so you’ll need a place on your balcony that is wide enough for them to grow. You’ll also want to position your container garden so that it can offer plenty of exposure to the sun.

Make sure that the growing area has adequate drainage. You want to avoid having standing water in your container garden, which can prove unhealthy for both your plants and yourself. If you’re growing plants that will flower in the spring, you’ll also need to ensure that the soil is prepared adequately for these plants. You can do this by excavating the area and filling with concrete, or by using a specially-designed drainage system.

Now that you’ve got your soil and container garden ready to go, it’s time to choose the plants that you’re going to grow. While balcony container gardening offers a lot of options, you may have trouble choosing the right ones from the start. Keep in mind that there are several plants that are especially suited to container gardening, and you should consider these before you begin. For instance, evergreens are excellent choices for container gardens, as they’re beautiful and easy to maintain. However, if you’re just starting out, try and choose plants that are native to your area, as they tend to be easier to care for.

Many plants will do better in the container than they would in your garden, and there’s no reason why you shouldn’t include some of these in your balcony container garden. Take some time and really think about what you want from your container garden. Are you looking for a focal point? Some of the best container plants are evergreens, and you can easily build a great living and decorative area in your balcony with one of these. Another good idea is a plant that offers both privacy and shelter, such as a container grape or two.

Once you’ve decided on a few plants that you think you’d like to start with, it’s time to decide where you want to put them. If you have a large balcony that stretches out across the back of your house, then your container garden is going to stretch out quite a bit farther than if you only have a balcony door between your house and the balcony. Think about how far you want your container garden to go, and then make sure that you include enough space to move around and enjoy yourself. Measure carefully to ensure that you get the correct measurements, and always be sure to include a gap of at least 4 inches between any two sides of your balcony railing.

When it comes to actually planting your container garden, all you need to do is put the pots in the holes, fill with dirt, and water them well. Make sure that you’re not putting too much water in the pots, though, as this can cause the plants to drown. After the soil is filled in, plant the seeds and seedlings in. Be sure that you spread them out a bit so that they have room to grow and prosper, and be patient as it may take awhile for them to appear. You’ll be rewarded with blooming, beautiful flowers in no time!
